Saying Good-bye a Little More Every Day

Excited. Nervous. Happy. Sad. New beginnings. Beginning of the end of something else. Letting go a little more.
NCH hopped on the bus less than an hour ago. Off to 2nd grade with a teacher he was really hoping for. He was smiling and SO excited...the most confident I've ever seen him heading to school. May he have this enthusiasm all year long!
But I have a giant gaping hole in my heart! I know, I know, I have 3 other little kiddos here, and I'm plenty busy, but that big boy has his own place. It's not the same without him. Of course he'd likely be pestering his siblings by now if he were home. He'd be asking me for something to do. Asking for a big plate of scrambled eggs with cheese. I know it's a normal part of growing up to head out to school, but I'm sad I don't know every detail of what he's doing. I'm sad that I can't see his face light up when he learns something new. I will have a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach all day until he bounds off the bus. This feeling will fade over time. I will "get used to" him being gone all day. The question is, do I want to get used to this? Still wrestling with the homeschooling option...

  1. homeschooling?? no way man. lol.
i feel lik ethe going off to school thing will be kinda bittersweet...of course, but i plan to get a day job when both my kids are in school..... or just go and get manis and pedis and work out for hours and turn into a "lady who lunches" LOLOLOL...in my dreams.
but anyway....i will love when my kids go to school, but i will also miss them alot.... but i will never home school. i have cousins who were homeschooled, great kids and unbeliveably SMART.....

  2. I just read this...I know the feeling. We want so much for our children, and we want to keep them close by our sides too! But the truth is, we will eventually have to let them go. No, not this young, but soon enough. Just love them and hug them every day! You both will do fine! and if you decide to homeschool...more power to ya!

  3. Krista - I am also not a big advocate of homeschooling. In this world, kids need to learn to work with others. They also need to take both priase and criticsm from those who are not their family members. They need to learn that there are all kinds of people in our world. This will shape who they are as much as we help to shape them as their parents. School is an important part of growing up......
